Legend has it that the ancient Indian King Miaozhuang had three beautiful princesses, the eldest daughter Miaojin, the second daughter Miaoyin, and the younger daughter Miaoshan . The sisters Miaojin and Miaoyin served their parents wholeheartedly at home, but the little girl, Miaoshan, was devout to the Buddha and became a nun. King Miaozhuang tried to persuade her to return to the palace, but Miaoshan still refused. King Miaozhuang was furious and ordered the temple to be demolished and the monks and nuns were driven away. Who knew that this incident alarmed the gods, and the gods blamed them, causing King Miaozhuang to have five hundred large pustules all over his body, and the pain was unbearable, and he sought medical treatment everywhere, and it could not be cured for a long time. Later, a kind doctor said that this disease can be cured by the hands and eyes of the king’s own children. Miaoshan resolutely gave up one hand and one eye to treat her father's disease ,and sure enough, King Miaozhuang's body soon recovered as before. Princess Miaoshan's filial piety not only educated King Miaozhuang and made him reshape the temple, making it golden, brilliant and full of incense. Shakyamuni was also moved by her deeds and rewarded princess Miaoshan with one thousand hands and one thousand eyes, enablingPrincess Miaoshan to save suffering sentient beings at all times. From then on, princess Miaoshan became Avalokiteshvara with one thousand hands and one thousand eyes, worshiped by everyone.
