Mixtape Volume 2: Solo Show feat. Slime Sunday
A collection of works by Slimesunday, showcasing his exploration of various mediums and styles over the past two years. This show highlights his approach to collage art. The works invite viewers to engage with themes such as nostalgia and censorship.
This current body of work is my largest to date, and I wanted to give myself the space to experiment with different styles. I started each work with what you could consider a creative concept outline, because so much of my process relies on the imagery I find. Collage, for me, is akin to fitting puzzle pieces together; I’ll discover an image that resonates with me, and then my next step is to find other images that complement it. That is on a thematic level, but also down to things like perspective, color treatment, and even how images are lit.
From the Artist:
This show, and my work in general, have a real sense of nostalgia to me because of the found imagery I use. I am fascinated by how much you can take from an image simply based on when it was created. The texture and feel of visuals from more analogue eras create an energy that I believe can’t be replicated in the same way today. I also draw significant inspiration from technology I grew up with, and the advertising I saw on TV and in magazines as a child. These influences have shaped my artistic voice.
I hope that my blend of vintage aesthetics and contemporary themes invites viewers to engage with the narratives embedded in my work.
