“When the principles of perspective are reversed and solidified into sculpted paintings something extraordinary happens; the mind is deceived into believing the impossible, that a static painting can move of its own accord”.
– Patrick Hughes

Pellas Gallery is pleased to announce Reverspective, a solo exhibition by Patrick Hughes.
London artist, Patrick Hughes is the sole founder of a painting style known as Reverspective. A method that merges sculpture and painting into one, creating an optical illusion in which the furthest parts appear nearest and vice versa. His paintings completely change depending on which angle you view them from.
At 80 years old, with a career spanning 6 decades, Hughes’s globally unique style has led him to have over 150 solo shows. He has also had a vast number of museum shows including The TATE and The British Council International Museum.
Hughes’ original painted reliefs are concerned with optical and visual illusions on a three-dimensional surface where the parts of the picture which seem farthest away are actually physically the nearest.
